Smoke Detector Safety
Smoke Detectors and alarms should be tested on a monthly basis. Batteries should be changed at least every 6 months. Alarms which fail the test either indicate dead batteries or a malfunctioning alarm. Malfunctioning alarms should be replaced. You also need to clean the alarm on a regular basis also.
A vast majority of these fire deaths occurred while victims were sleeping. Smoke detectors should be located on each level of the structure., Smoke detectors should be located near all bedrooms and if sleeping inside a bedroom with the door closed in that room as well.
