Prescription Drug Tips

Financial assistance

Check the drug manufacturer’s web site. Some drugs offer free trial offers and substantial financial assistance regardless of income structure, e.g. Crestor Savings. Often you can use these offers with your regular insurance discounts as well.

Depending on income structure, some organizations, such as The Partnership for Prescription Assistance, can help through assorted financial assistance programs. Be wary if any organization requires you to sign up with a credit card or to give them personal or financial information.

Prescription Discount cards

As a resident of Indiana, you and your family have access to a statewide Prescription Assistance Program (PAP). Create and print your FREE discount prescription drug card below. This card will provide you with Rx medication savings of up to 75% at more than 56,000 pharmacies across the country including CVS/pharmacy, Kmart, Marsh, Martin’s, Meijer, Osco, Target, Walgreens, and many more. You can create as many cards as you need. We encourage you to give cards to friends and family members. This card is pre-activated and can be used immediately! Click Here for more information about this program.

If you live in Hendricks and other counties, most are a member of the National Association of Counties’ Prescription Discount Card Program, For Hendricks county, you can look up participating pharmacies and print a free card at Care Mark.

NOTE-Again, be very wary of any program or card that requires you to sign up with a credit card or to give them personal or financial information to use the card.

Stretching Your Dollar

Ask your doctor for prescription samples. Sounds silly but the pharmaceutical reps give them tons of samples and not just on new drugs. Depending on the doctor and the availability of the prescription, they may give you a whole month’s supply especially if they know you’re short on cash. Most doctors have a closet full of prescription samples.

Ask your doctor about pill splitting. For example, if you are taking a 10mg drug dosage, you may be able to get a 20mg prescription for a few dollars more than you are currently paying. Then you cut them in half and save quite a bit of money. However, some drugs you can split and some you cannot, so always ask your doctor first before splitting.
